Ceci n'est pas un restaurant. This is no ordinary restaurant. "You don't eat at Bouillabaisse," says Ingrid, co-owner and Bouillabaisse's ever-sparkling hostess. "As you browse through our menu of haute cuisine dishes, you taste, sample and share an array of flavours with a definite Asain-style, seafood twist."
Thoughtfully selected by the chef to bring you an extensive range of fish as well as non-fish dishes, each menu category is compiled with tastes and flavours from around the world with a definite Asian (seafood) twist.
Our menu is not structured around the traditional (starters, mains and desserts) categories but is instead an open invitation to order randomly from any of the menu selections. We invite you to browse through our menu of snacks, tasters and larger dishes, choose several items to enjoy and share with your fellow diners or order each dish separately, as you leisurely proceed with your culinary exploration.
While Ingrid and her team make sure that all guests enjoy spotless service and pair the right wine with the right food, award-winning chef Camil and his team perform little pieces of magic at, what some might like to call, his culinary theatre.
"Our open kitchen allows patrons to be part of the preparation of their food," says Camil. "They can all witness the quality of the products and the creativity that is put into every single dish." A free cooking demo all day long. You might prefer this to the BBC Food Channel, as, here, the spectacle is real, and you can ask the chef and his team any questions you like.
The decor is sophisticated, and exudes stylish beauty ; it is a timeless cocoon for anyone who enjoys a trendy, informal and social atmosphere.
Winner of Eat Out's Best New Restaurant 2002 and member of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Bouillabaisse is listed within the top 100 restaurants in South Africa by the 2008 edition of the Dine Restaurant Guide.
Interior designer Renee de Waal elegantly created the feeling of having seafood on the floor of the ocean: blowfish and seaweed are part of your surrounds, and with just some imagination, you will be able to see the sea-horses, mermaids and whales lounging outside the windows.
Bouillabaisse is a vibrant get-together for locals as well as for tourists who choose to dine in style. The Franschhoek branch is situated in the heart of this picturesque Winelands village, while the Cape Town branch forms part of the Epicurian Food Emporium at the Waterkant, near the famous and upmarket Waterfront.
